The Road cycling experience here in Cornwall during the best months of the year is marred by the sheer number of tourists crowding the small roads and lanes in their 4x4s.
In South Africa according to law, you are only allowed to ride single file.
The 2 abreast argument is massive. I may be biased on this as I predominantly ride sole, no friends, but I don't like riding 2 or more abreast if there is traffic around.
If there are cars who can travel quicker on the open road, let them past by going single file. In the same way when the cars are slowed or stationary due to traffic they should let us past. A chat with a friend is nice, beign considerate is better.
In Hungary on some roads we have designated cycling lanes next to the car lanes. It doesn't mean much though as cars treat the cycle lanes as an extra car lane, it is quite dangerous riding in them. Cars suddenly pull into them, cars park in them, it is as if cyclists are invisible to the cars. We also have some cycle lanes that are seperate from the road but these are even more dangerous as they are often located right next to pedestrian pathways. The pedestrians are even worse than the cars, they basically treat the cycle lane as a walk way, quite often stepping out into the path of an oncoming cycle at the last second. I personally prefer riding on the road amongst the cars, there is no chance that they won't see you and they tend to treat cyclists with a little more respect…… either that or they are afraid of banging up their cars if they do crash into us…. either way, a lot safer.

Side by side cycling should absolutely be banned.
Being a cyclist and car driver myself riding side by side is just an unnecesary obstacle for cars.
With the narrow roads one cyclist at a time is way easier to overtake.
Cycling is booming where I live. Dedicated bike trails for many miles and roads with bike lanes everywhere. However if on the road with no bike lane we have to be single file.
I remember the nineties, when the bike shops almost exclusively stocked MTB and BMX… but road bikes recovered from that.
My thinking with the art piece bike is that it's a two speed early prototype for a recliner bike. One of those where you pedal forward to go one speed and pedal backwards to go slower. Either that or it's an early version of a reverse pedal brake, since there's no braking levers
As long there is good weather, little wind, winding roads with beautiful tarmac, there will be road cycling.
I am cycling now for more than 50 years. Generally, I have met few situations where car drivers deliberately tried to harm me. I chalk this up to being "obvious". I try to make my intentions crystal clear and find that in so doing car drivers, typically, seem to steer clear of me. Notably, this is not the same as bicycling "defensive". I often find defensive bicyclists (and motorists) show an aire of confusion.
I also live by: If I make a mistake, I die. if they make a mistake, I still die. Keep an eye out for dicey situations. Someone sitting in a car? That door could open any time. Traffic too fast for your taste? Move a little bit closer into the road to have more escape if necessary. Traffic building up behind you? Turn around, signal that now it is safe to pass.

road cycling in certain areas is under threat in the uk, its hated by most motorists, and with investment in cycle lane infrastructure its only a matter of time before bikes on main roads mixing directly with traffic will be a thing of the past
However good quality cycle lanes may increase cycling numbers and reduce the friction that obviously exists on the uk roads
Speaking for my alter ego, Oldmanwilson, you are so very correct that art is much more likely to be found in a Colnago or Pinarello.
Law should be riding beside another cyclist is OK until you are blocking cars from overtaking
The main reasons I got into cycling were that I don't need any fuel or electricity , get away from all kinds of electronics but most of all other people.

I live in Hong Kong – and I can promise you that even with the proposed changes in UK laws governing cycling, it is FAR worse here! Cyclists in HK are more and more being forced from actually riding on the roads and instead MUST ride on so-called 'bike paths'. [you will be prosecuted if you ride on a road where there is a bike path provided]. However, these paths are absolutely lethal and were clearly designed by an escaped psychopath from the local lunatic asylum!
Literally every 500m there are a set of bollards spread across the path, which means that you have to slow down considerably or stop completely. I have seen numerous really bad accidents where cyclists have collided with the bollards or been unable to slow down in time and crashed into cyclists in front of them. The paths are relatively narrow also and again I have seen several crashes where cyclists have collided head-on with each other cyclists.
The reason for this utterly disgraceful attitude towards cycling and cyclists is that HK Government, Police and [the all-omnipotent] motorists totally hate cycling and cyclists! HK is by far the worst country I have ever ridden a bike in – and compared to a relative 'backwater' like Thailand, it is light years behind in terms of being 'cycling-friendly'.
Although HK motorists seem to be required by law to be completely obnoxious and discourteous towards other road users, they make an even greater effort where cyclists are concerned! They will deliberately attempt to run you off the road, sound their hour endlessly if you delay them by even a millisecond and [their favourite trick] is to overtake you but immediately cut in so that you have brake hard to avoid coming off! Oh and by the way – if they do cause accidents and injuries to cyclists [as one did in my case] the police will never prosecute them!
The biggest irony of all this is that HK's most successful and well-known athlete was World Champion cyclist Wong Kam Po. He represented HK with great honour and won every major race in Asia [on the road and on the track] worth winning.

The road accident statistics from Australia clearly prove that riding abreast is many fold safer than single file. It is thought this is mainly due to the increased visibility of the riders and the shortened overtaking distance. If you think single file is safer, your dead wrong bout that. Powerful motoring organisations are constantly lobby against riding abreast but the accident stats are so startlingly clear and obvious that no government has been willing to pander to the majority on this safety issue.

In Houston, Texas the law requires 3 feet (nearly1 meter) when overtaking a cyclist. The police do enforcement periods where the put laser measuring devices on their bikes, then radio for a patrol officer to pull an offending car over.
In my area in the usa we are actually getting more accommodation's for road cyclists.
Why are road races so long? So many miles each day, are some of the races to much for the body? What do you think?

In Germany, riding side-by-side is only allowed for groups of 16 or more cyclists (see also critical mass). Nevertheless, road cycling is very widespread here. Relax

In the Philippines during the pandemic, cycling became a demand. Especially since public utility vehicles stopped operating, people, especially the frontliners (doctors, nurses, and other essential workers), chose to buy bikes to get themselves to work. And when that happened, bikes here became more expensive.

I’ve just ordered an e bike. Too many knee surgeries, back surgeries, shoulders, elbows and ankle. Ended up with a dropped foot which also leaves you with a weak hip. So you can’t stand up on the peddles going up hill. Hence the ebike. 💖🙏🚴♂️🚴🏼♀️🚵♂️🚵♀️
